Ayiti

10 12 2010

Ayiti bèl peyi kap soufri
Bèl flè kap mal nouri
Peyi ki pa gen lavi
Sitou pou sila kap vini.

Ayiti ki te si bèl
Ki te gen yon bote reyèl
Ou te ka konpare l ak lakansyèl
Kounye a pou viv ladan l se mare fyèl
Bote Ayiti a dekale
Tout moun rete bwa kwaze
Bouch pe pèsòn pa vle pale

Ayiti tankou yon pikèt yo plante
Nan mitan yon ma labou
Yo tann yon po bèf sou li
Solèy la pli pase sou li
Ayiti ki te la bèl dèzanti
Kounye a ki tounen poubèl ki pi santi.

Lamizè nan peyi’m pa la pli
Li pap janm aveti’w lè lap vini
Mm, mm, mm.
Se kouto ki konn sa ki nan kè yanm.

*******************
Haiti, beautiful suffering land,
Lovely malnourished flower,
Land with no life,
Especially for what lies ahead.

Once Haiti was beautiful
It had true beauty
You could compare it to a rainbow.
Now, to live here, we must forget the bitter taste of gall
Haiti’s beauty is washed away.
Everyone sits with their arms crossed, doing nothing,
Mouths silent, no one wanting to talk.

Haiti is planted like a stake
In the middle of a puddle of mud,
With a cow’s skin stretched over it, drying and stinking
As the sun and rain pass over it.
Haiti, the pearl of the Antilles,
Has now become the worst-smelling garbage of all.

The misery of my country doesn’t announce itself with darkening skies,
It will never warn you before it comes.
Mmm, mmm, mmm.
You only know that the yam is rotten after you slice it.
